Handmade, Fair Trade and the Artisanal Production of Clothes tonight at MICA

Who designed your clothes? Where were they made? And who made them? Join members of the Baltimore craft and design community for a conversation with artists and designers whose projects address those question and look at how our clothes are made tonight, 5-6:30 PM, at the Brown Center, Room 320.

Featuring:

Kevin Sherry and Jean-Baptiste Regnard, Squidfire, Baltimore
Squidfire is a silkscreen studio that creates a variety of apparel using the studio's original art. Squidfire uses a manual press to print all items, making each piece unique. The company has a retail store in Hampden, operates a series of Art Marts featuring locally made crafts, and sells apparel through an online shop and stores internationally.

Travis Boyer, artist, Brooklyn, NYC
Distinguished as a textile art innovator, Boyer is at the center of several fashion projects including silk-painting duo Donnie & Travis and craft-action yarn happening Pon-a-Thon with Abby Walton. He helped launch Flex Your Textiles and J'APPROVE, a performance-oriented fashion line with K8 Hardy for JF & Son, where he works as a curator. J'APPROVE is one of a series of artist designed textile and fashion multiples produced in Delhi, India at the JF & Son production studio for Boyer's MFT* (my favorite things).

Kelly Cobb, artist and professor, Department of Fashion & Apparel Studies, The University of Delaware
Cobb is a Philadelphia based creative designer. Currently, she is applying concepts utilized in current agricultural sustainability initiatives such as the slow/local food movement and community supported agriculture to textile and apparel production by focusing on slow and local production of an heirloom product via artisanal methods.

This even is sponsored by the MICA Fiber Department and Alumni Relations
